Frequently Asked Questions

Be “in the know” before you arrive

Yes. Our water is sourced from a well on the property and is run through a central UV filter. It is also tested and sent to the ministry monthly. Further to that, we actually think it tastes great!

Yes. We have reliable, high speed Wi-Fi throughout the entire resort.

We have a generator on site that powers most of the resort. It may take a bit of time before it kicks in, as it is a manual process to get it going. While the power is out, the cottages will not have water, plumbing or wifi. There are candles in the cottages which you may use and if you require more candles or water, just let us know. While the power is out, we ask that you do not flush your toilets as the septic system is run on pumps which require electricity.  While we are running the generator, we ask that guests try to minimize their usage of power. And once power is restored it may take up to 20-minutes for the central water system to resume operations.

Kennebec lake is a fresh water lake and is good for swimming.  It reaches a depth of about 100’ deep in the east basin. Our beach area has a gentle slope and is only about 7’ or so deep in the “swimming area”. Please remember that we do not have a lifeguard on site. Children must be always supervised in and around the water (including at the beach) and guests swim at their own risk.

The resort grounds are approximately 6 acres with about 750’ of shoreline. It only takes about 5 minutes to walk from one end of the resort to the other.

Yes, we have limited additional parking at our marina and by the front entrance. We do ask that guests try to minimize the number of cars they bring, especially in the peak summer period.

Unfortunately, we do not generally permit tents to be erected at the cottages.

Yes, generally day visitors are welcome within reason. Overnight visitors are permitted as long as the cottage guest capacity is not exceeded. There may be an additional fee for visitors who are using the resort enhancements or staying overnight. When in doubt please ask in advance.

  • We are a business focused on hospitality and ensuring your expectations are met is our priority.
  • We have on site staff 24/7 to address any emergency that may arise, and so you can rest assured that there is someone close by should you require something during your stay.
  • There are a ton of extra enhancements available to use and things to do that are unique to Springwood – did we mention our Games Library of nearly 1000 board games?
  • There is a built-in community at Springwood. Particularly in the summer, when many guests return each year to be reacquainted with their Springwood friends and meet new friends.
  • You can be as social or private as you wish – the cottages all have some built in privacy due to the topography and tree coverage, but you can also socialize to your hearts content.
  • Enjoy a natural setting – we treasure the gifts Mother Nature has bestowed to this area and love being able to share it with you
  • Staying local within Ontario, can be more economical and stress free than travelling abroad, especially if you are a family (staying local supports local)
  • If you are a larger extended family or friend group, you can stay in multiple cottages without being crammed into one space, allowing tons of togetherness, but also the ability to hide away as needed
  • We’re a proud member of Resorts of Ontario, giving you reassurance of our high standards in hospitality

We adhere to the local bylaws which include “quiet hours” between 11-7am. That doesn’t mean that you need to go inside your cottage and go to sleep. It means that we ask you keep the noise to a respectable level during those hours, so that the resort neighbours and your neighbours within the resort are not disturbed.

There are no cameras in the cottages, nor anywhere “private”. We do have cameras in the games room, store, by the entrance and around the marina to deter theft and help ensure the safety of our guests.

They are good – thanks for asking. 😊 Seriously though, you are coming out of the city into nature and yes there are bugs which can be more prevalent during certain times in the day. There are things that can be done to minimize your exposure including wearing protective clothing or insect repellent, renting one of our cottages that has a screened in porch to hang out in during the early evening period, visit during a time of year when they are not as prevalent, sitting by the campfire, bringing a device to deter them, etc.

We are very fortunate to be on a healthy lake with a diverse eco-system. We have a few loon families that take up residence on Kennebec Lake. You can also find Blue Herons, ducks and swallows on the lake. Closer to the mouth of Kennebec Lake and Salmon River there are several swans. There are also turtles, otters, butterflies, hummingbirds, robin’s, chipmunks, squirrels, wild turkeys, foxes, deer and the occasional raccoon. We sometimes hear coyotes and are aware of rabbits, bears and moose nearby but have never seen them on the property.

How good of a fisherperson are you?  😉  Kennebec lake is a healthy lake that is home to most fish common to Ontario lakes – small and large mouth bass, northern pike, pickerel (walleye), sunfish, bluegill, rock bass, yellow perch, bullhead.  All of these have been caught on our “fishing dock” which is about 100’ long with a 10’ x 20’ platform at the end. There are also several preferred spots throughout the lake that can be explored by fishing boat.

Yes.  We replaced the 3 main marina docks a couple of year ago and have dock slips available to rent by the day or by the week.

Currently we rent pontoon and fishing boats that are not suitable for towing.

Not really.

Not at this point in time. Our leisure deck has an outdoor kitchen of sorts with a large grill, smoker and wood fire pizza oven where we host “build your own pizza nights” during the summer or for special events.

Yes, all of our cottages have a 3-piece bathroom, running water, and fully stocked kitchens +++

Generally, in July and August we rent out cottages out for 1-week periods (from Saturday to Saturday) and open up to shorter stays in that period around Victoria Day if there is still availability.  For the rest of the year we generally have a 2-night minimum stay.

Yes, absolutely! We believe strongly in providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive retreat for everyone and will not tolerate any bullying, harassment, violence or discrimination towards any of our guests or team members.

The property sits at the edge of the Canadian Shield and as such has a rocky terrain with a sandy “road/walkway” which can be difficult to navigate for those with mobility issues. We do have a couple of golf carts that can assist with movement throughout the resort.

Presently, most of our cottages are not fully accessible, however there are some which are more accessible than others. In particular Cottage 3 is nearly fully wheelchair accessible – with wide door frames, an accessible bathroom and ramp with 2 landing spots. Its best to speak with us to discuss your specific needs and which options will be better than others or how we can make accommodations to suit your unique needs.

Our hot tubs are regularly maintained and generally in very good working order. They are checked daily and water changed regularly.

During the spring, summer and fall we have an outdoor laundry building with a washer and a dryer available for guest use for a small fee.
